OUR MISSION

Here at the Treehouse, we want to help shift the fashion world away from a wasteful, throw-away culture, to something more sustainable and intentional–and, guess what? This can easily done, starting with small, but conscious choices in how we shop, slowly changing the way we think about our clothing.

We are here to encourage recycled, repurposed, repaired, and redirected clothing… a shift from our clothing being seen as disposal, to something we value and keep in our closets forever, or until we are ready to pass it from one hand to the second.

While fast-fashion like H&M, Target, or F21, is an inexpensive option when you need a new trendy outfit, but the effects on the planet are rather costly. The price tag is low because they are mass produced, poorly constructed, made from cheap/synthetic materials, and because of that, will stretch, fray, pill, tear, and ultimately wind up in your donation bag, and from there, the landfill.

On average, people bought 60% more garments in 2014 than they did in 2000. Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. What’s more, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year.”                          -Business Insider, 2019

When we invest into higher-quality items, not only will we be less likely to toss them, because we appreciate their value, but they also last longer, make you look/feel better, and when you’re done, you can pass them along, so they can continue their circular journey, being sold or mended, hopefully becoming a vintage item some day and living on as another person’s treasured item of clothing for many more years. Every item that you buy second hand = less resources from the planet, less waste going to landfills, and less mula out of your pocket.

Fashion is a means of self-expression, individuality, and reflects your aesthetic, creativity, and values. Whether your style is minimal or bold, classic or crazy, you are a walking piece of history, a sign of the times… so how do you want to show up in the world? At our Treehouse, we want to be remembered for being compassionate consumers, who made old the new cool, and flipped the script from fast-fashion to fashion-forward. We hope to change the world, starting with changing the way we shop
